Inline Oil Blending

inline-blending1The Turn-Key KPS inline blending systems are primarily used to blend two or more grades of Bunker Oil or Crude Oil for refining or export purposes. Furthermore, the KPS inline blending systems are used to get information on the oil composition being transferred or as part of an internal quality system.

In-line blending has many advantages compared to batch blending, like improved accuracy, reduction in process time and more flexibility (all according to the just-in-time production principle).

Bunker oil blending

A barge, jetty or a container assembled in-line bunker blender gives operators the opportunity to produce any type of oil containing the minimum amount of viscosity and volume tolerances. Due to inaccuracies of conventional blenders, many users are often forced to blend beyond the given specification with all unnecessary costs as a consequence. The needed flow rate and component ratio are established in the control system to the ratio of the eventual recipe. Based on the possible density or viscosity signal the control of the system gets optimized. This allows for a batch according to the given specification and a minimum loss of the precious product.

Crude oil blending

Crude oil is mostly blended to raise the sales price or to process a lower grade of crude oil with a higher grade of crude oil. The purpose of blending is to produce crude oil according to the given specification with minimal loss of the precious product.

The basics of inline blending

The key component of the KPS inline Blenders is the KPS inline Jetmixer.

The KPS Jet-mixer has been developed in order to get a proper mixing and accurate analysis results for pipelines of 6" and above. Using advanced CFD software the Inline Blender Design can be made independent upon the flow, pipeline size, viscosity and density scope.

The principle of the KPS Jetmixer is based upon the use of a small stream from the main stream that will be re-injected in the line under pressure. The unique thing about the KPS Jetmixing method is not so much the mixing in the line, but more then 99%* homogeneity of the flow in the return line. This makes a highly accurate analyses possible. The analyse loop can be isolated which makes maintenance on the analyse equipment possible. Apart from these advantages is purging of the line also possible by using a retractable version of the mixer.

Viscosity control blenders

The KPS viscosity controlled blenders are more often used for the blending of crude oil, and Bunker fuel oil. The KPS inline blender uses the jetmix loop, which allows for an extreme well mixed homogeneous flow. The homogeneous flow is analysed by a viscosity meter to trim the KPS inline blender for any offspec oils. This is a must have in case the quality of the end product can vary at component ratio.

Density control blenders

The KPS density controlled blenders are more often used for the blending of crude oil, propane and butane. The KPS inline blender uses the jetmix loop, which allows for an extreme well mixed homogeneous flow. The homogeneous flow is analysed by a density meter to trim the KPS inline blender for any offspec oils. This is a must have in case the quality of the end product can vary at component ratio.

Ratio control blenders

The KPS ratio controlled blenders are closed loop blenders applied for a variety of applications. The blended product quality is a function of the quantity of the steams.
