Automatic Gas Sampling

gas-sampling1The Turn-Key KPS automatic gas sampling systems are primarily used to determine the BTU’s, SGU and HC Dew point of the gas streams. Furthermore, the KPS automatic gas sampling systems are used to get information on the status of the gas producing wells and/or the gas being transferred.

Registration using the KPS automatic gas sampling systems can be important when there are claims coming from clients, for the control of gas suppliers, or to prevent unnecessary fiscal payments.

KPS Automatic Gas Sampling Systems are build in accordance with the ISO 8943 / ISO 10715 standards. KPS is capable of providing a truly representative composite sample, giving both the user and his client/supplier confidence.

The basics of Natural Gas Sampling

PID-smallMost gas produced today is “wet”, with contaminants and some heavy hydrocarbons that will condense and contaminate the gas stream if incorrectly handled. These contaminants need to be maintained in equilibrium within the sample at all stages of handling so as not to have a detrimental effect on the final analysis.

The KPS Gas sampling systems prevent such downgrading of the sample quality analysis without the need to use multi-stage pressure letdown as used by manual sampling, pressure volume based sampling, gas chromatographs, etc. Furthermore, the KPS Gas sampling systems have minimal calibration requirements and avoid the need for complex field instrumentation to be installed in the field.

Automatic gas sampling is not just the purchase of the right components; it is the integration of them to form a complete gas sampling system. To build an automatic gas sampling system it is necessary to design, engineer and to integrate the components together. This to provide a fully operational gas sampling system that will be capable of meeting the clients unique application.

Display-smallThe KPS Gas sampling system normally employ three gas samplers tied into a single process loop to allow three independent but comparable samples to be taken. In addition, provision is made to allow the KPS Gas sampling system to extract fixed volume samples to conventional 500ml receivers at key intervals of the batch. With the KPS Gas sampling system the 3 samples are taken and held in the Constant Pressure Sample Receivers. The use of fixed pressure receivers ensure that the sample is stored at the exact process conditions. Furthermore the receivers have minimal atmospheric or cross batch contamination and a large number of small samples to maximize batch representativity. Each KPS Gas Sampling System can be automated using remote I/O’s and DCS or PLC compatibility. This to monitor the KPS Gas Samplers performance, guard the sampled integrity and schedule maintenance if required.

With LNG sampling systems, the build up is similar to the KPS automatic gas sampling system. For LNG applications the sampling system comprises of a KPS gas sampling system with an integrated vaporisation, stabilisation and control system. This to ensure control of the phase change of the LNG to gas with minimal lag.
