The basics of Crude Oil Sampling

One of the key components with crude oil sampling, is pipeline conditioning. Depending upon the flow conditions, separation of the fluid can take place within the pipeline during custody transfers. In order to get a sample that is representative with the pipeline contents, the flow needs to be homogeneous. Depending upon the flow conditions, KPS uses the KPS Jet-mixer to assure a homogeneous flow, hence getting a sample that corresponds with the pipeline contents.

The KPS Jet-mixer has been developed in order to get a proper mixing and accurate analysis results for pipelines of 6" and above. Using advanced CFD software the crude oil samples can be made independent upon the flow, pipeline size, viscosity and density scope.

The principle of the KPS Jet-mixer is based upon the use of a small stream from the main stream that will be re-injected in the line under pressure. The unique thing about the KPS Jet-mixing method is not so much the mixing in the line, but more then 99%* homogeneity of the flow in the return line. This makes a highly accurate analyses possible. The analyse loop can be isolated which makes maintenance on the analyse equipment possible. Apart from these advantages is purging of the line also possible by using a retractable version of the mixer.
